For a feature on the musical 'A Man of No Importance'.
Set in Dublin, in 1964, it tells the story of Alfie Byrne, a modest bus driver who attempts to put on an amateur theatre production in the local church hall. He is confronted by the forces of prejudice and shame over his repressed homosexuality, but the saving power of theatre and friendship changes his life.
Jim Parsons stars as Alfie, with Mare Winningham as his sister, Lily. Directed by John Doyle.
